有人说读商学院就要把一半时间用来读书，一半时间用来玩，为什么呢？其实到这边后第一天上课就已经揭晓答案了，因为老师每时每刻都在强调networking，无论是商学院的同学，还是杜伦大学其他院系的同学，将来都是你生活中的一笔财富。对于留学生来说尤其如此，因为这段特殊的经历让同学关系变得有些不一样，大家一起度过这段异国的旅程，某种程度上也像一种旅伴的关系。

那究竟什么是networking，究竟要怎么做networking，是不是那种目的性很强地去认识一个人就叫networking呢？课上老师给大家发了一本小书，叫做《It’s Not What You Know, It’s Who You Know – A Guide to Networking》，中心思想提炼如下：

There’s no one single method for networking.

It’s not about dressing smartly, handing out all your cards and making people feel uncomfortable by trying to sell to them.

It’s about chatting to people, listening and learning, getting to know each other and letting relationships develop over time. We network every day with our families, friends, neighbors, colleagues and acquaintances. We’ve been doing it for centuries.

But when you want to follow a new path or start a new business you have to branch out and make new contacts in order to survive and grow – and networking enables you to do this.

Sometimes you do it with a clear purpose – to find out something or tell people something. Sometimes you do it without a specific purpose and it’s incredible what luck and happenstance brings.

Networking is also not just about following the strategies that someone told you. Yes, some or all of the tips might be really useful. But the most important thing to remember is that you are an individual and therefore your approach to networking is individual. Do it in the way that you are most comfortable with, the way that suits you and your own personal style.

Don’t put yourself under pressure to be something you’re not. Be yourself.

One last thing. Make time for it. Put the effort in. get connected. It takes time to work – and it does work!

周末的生活与平日的紧张相比的确有点无聊，在新浪微博上排遣一下孤独，结果被骆轶航同学封为了“不列颠寂寞帝”。这个周六先是和一个德国同学交换了一会儿语言，我帮他提高中文，他教我一点德语。周六又和一些英国朋友以及香港朋友打了一会儿羽毛球，接着又出去踢足球，我第一次在真草上面享受足球，那种感觉真是棒极了！！！晚上和几个朋友去了杜伦一个中式自助餐厅，英国自助餐的价格随时段而不同，我们等到最贵的那个时间爽了一把。坐在朋友的BMW M3里，感受了一把华丽的加速度，愈加想念我那台停在地库里慢慢生锈的小车了。

下周三有一个Fresher Ball，明天早上要记得去买票，看了以往几年的现场照片，真是嗨到不行。据说所有参加舞会的同学必须盛装出席，然后由豪华大巴把所有人运到一个神秘场所，结束之后再把大家送回来。从往年的照片中不难看出，能让人high翻天的元素一个不少，知名乐队/歌手献唱、特邀DJ打碟、清凉美女领舞、酒精和毒品（Allen说美国的大学里到处是毒品，我想英国一定也是）、“皇家”赌场……来看看照片吧。
